It will actually really be a quick blog this evening. Had a great ride today. Left Winnipeg just before 9:00 a.m. and the temperatures were already on the rise. The scenery was lovely along the way. Very reminiscent of Flin Flon with the rocky outcrops and lakes everywhere.
I had hoped to get up to Minaki Lake to visit Kim and Dale at their cabin, but my slightly later than planned stop made that a challenge. On the way, I met a group of people who were returning to Alberta from Quebec where their sister had celebrated her 90th birthday. They were excited to hear about my trip and we had a great little visit at the gas station. The photographer in the crew took a photo of the rest of us and we headed on our way. I headed out without ever topping up as the reader wouldn’t accept my card. But I wasn’t even close to desperate, so continued on. Fortunately for me, Kim and Dale were actually in Kenora when I was about half an hour out and we were able to meet for lunch. The suggestion of a new restaurant in the Keewatin area called 901 Westside turned out to be a winner. Excellent lunch – great food, and good portions. Can’t tell you about price because I was treated!! Thank you, Kim and Dale. Heading back out, I rode through Kenora to top up with gas. Kenora is a scenic place and it’s easy to get distracted and miss a turn. Although this time, I didn’t miss it! I only stopped a couple of times to take a couple of photos. The road is single lane and traffic was busy by then, so I didn’t want to pull off often. Arrived at cousin Neil’s office (McLeod Chiropractic) just before 4:00 p.m. and he gave me directions to their house. Missed Christine and the kids as they had to go to Winnipeg, but Auntie Betty and Uncle Ed had come up to Fort Frances for the visit. So great to see everyone again. We had an amazing supper of pickerel fish fry, fresh veggies and Betty’s hashbrown casserole. Going to have to get that recipe! Apple pie for dessert and I’m sitting in a well-fed stupor. Neil provided a much needed chiropractic treatment and I can highly recommend him! 😊 Off to bed soon and will hope to get going in good time again tomorrow as the destination is Thunder Bay and I hope to get a few more good photos.
