Random research this evening has revealed that my currently planned route into Northwest Territories will take me up the "Waterfall Highway"! Waterfalls are my biggest all-time happy place! I am no longer disappointed with my decision to give the Inuvik route a miss and visit the NWT at Hay River!

The tough part about planning is that the more I read and see and plan, the longer the trip gets. At this rate, I may never get back. There are so many extraordinary people and places and it is humbling just to read about it while researching. I can only imagine what it will be like to experience a small part of it for myself. I know there are choices to be made and every day I will take away a feeling of exhilaration at what I have seen and at the same time a feeling of loss for what I will miss on my journey. Still, as Anne of Green Gables would say "I shall sip the nectar and cast away the sting".
It is pretty certain now that I will ride the Stewart-Cassiar Highway from Prince Rupert to Whitehorse, rather than take the ferry from Prince Rupert to Skagway. I was really looking forward to the ferry ride as I have heard that it is a stunning trip and would add some cool variety to the trip. Unfortunately, it is cost-prohibitive, particularly considering it is at the front end of what is now a 23,000 km trip. Still, the Stewart-Cassiar is supposed to be a little bit of heaven too, so I am equally looking forward to that! |
