Well the north-western route keeps morphing. I have an alternate route planned from Victoria to Whitehorse in case the weather through the mountains in BC is not cooperative. After much consideration, I have decided that the Dempster Hwy to Inuvik is off the table - just too much time and hassle with not having the right kind of bike for it. I do intend to take a side excursion to Haines Junction and up to Burwash Landing though. Through the Kluane (pronounced kloo-ah-nee) National Park. My little trip up there while working in Whitehorse convinced me that I need to see more of it. If weather and road condition permits, I will try to do the portion of the Top of the World highway from Dawson City to Little Gold and back, without doing the dip into Alaska from the south. Pretty stoked for this trip. I know it will continue to change as I prepare and as I travel.

Being in the Yukon over the weekend presented the opportunity to do a little road-tripping by car to check things out. Talked with lots of people and saw some amazing scenery. Can't wait to tour it by bike! Without exception, everyone I talked to said it would be worthwhile to see about getting tires or a bike that would allow me to do the top-of-the-world highway as well as the Dempster to Inuvik. Talked to a local dealer - lots of people come up to Whitehorse, swap their street tires for off-road and head up there. I've got some thinking to do....... While on a business trip to Whitehorse, I found this magazine in the lobby of my hotel! Some great information on the communities in the Yukon and eastern Alaska. An awesome addition to my research materials for travelling the Yukon on this trip. Still fantasizing about how I can get to Inuvik, NWT while travelling the Yukon. Different bike? Different tires? More research to be done.
